Blue moon on 31st of July 2015

The Meaning of Full Moons.

The full moon is considered by many as a time of great power and the ideal time for many rituals. The Moon is representative of the Goddess as the Sun is representative of the God. The bond that links them is that the light of the moon is the reflected light of the sun transmuted by the Goddess and given back to the earth. The information you will find in this article is based solely on my own research and experience and is not a definitive guide to the pagan moons.
The Native Americans had a name for each of these moons as they tracked through the course of the year. Each moon had a special meaning to mark the importance of the time of year and what activities that would take place in their lives. Different tribes had different names for the different moons and the list is too long to include in this article. See the attached link for many more names of the different Native American tribe for the full moons.

The Blue Moon
Most years have only 12 full moons, but every two to three years there is a 13th moon which is called the Blue Moon. The Native Americans did not have a specific name for this moon as their ‘calendar’ was marked from moon to moon. But for pagans the Blue Moon is considered a time of special significance. The magic of the Blue Moon has great power for rituals at this time.

"Pray to the Moon when She is round,
Luck with you shall then abound
What you seek for shall be found,
In sea or sky or solid ground."
Spells that you can perform to draw the energy of the moon to yourself:

Magic of the Moon Spell No. 1 (Magic Moon Water)

Leave a jug of spring water out in the light of the Full Moon. This water is excellent for washing your face to impart beauty and purity and can also be used to energetically cleanse crystals and imbue them with the magic of the Full Moon.

Magic of the Moon Spell No. 2 (Prosperity Spell)

What you need:
Silver coin
Cauldron or pot

Half fill the pot with water and drop a silver coin into it. Position the pot or cauldron so the light of the Full Moon shines onto the water. Gently sweep your hands above the surface, symbolically gathering up the Moon's silver.

While you are gathering the Moon's silver, say:

La Luna, beautiful Lady of the Moon, bring to me your wealth right soon. Fill my hands with silver and gold. All you give, my hands can hold.

Repeat this chant three times. When you are finished, pour the water upon the Earth. This is most effective done during the Full Moon.

Magic of the Moon Spell No. 3 (Moon Wish Spell)

To ask for your heart's desire, draw the symbol of the Waxing Moon in a pure beeswax candle with a rose thorn. Light the candle, and with your eyes fixed upon the flame, concentrate on your heart's desire being granted by the Goddess Moon.

When this thought is firmly in your mind, whisper softly: "Goddess Luna, mother of all love and light, grant me my heart's desire (say exactly what you wish for). Grant my wishes, fulfill my heart's desire. Shine on me tonight."

Blow out the candle flame, but hold the image of it in your mind's eye for as long as possible. As you think of the candle's flame, know for sure that your wish has been heard. Within the space of one lunar cycle, your heart's desire should be granted.
